Phillip Harvey Davis, 87, of Morganton died Friday, March 2, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on January 24, 1931, he was the son of the late Edward Webb Davis and Ezzel Moultrie Cox Davis.

Phillip was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  He served as a medic with the U.S. Army on the front lines of the Korean War.  Mr. Davis retired from Carolina Container Corp of Hickory and was well-known in the Laotian community as the “Cow Man.”

Phillip is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hazel Denton Davis of the home; daughter, Victoria Digh and husband, Chuck, of Morganton; son, Phillip Barry Davis and wife, Myong, of Morganton; grandson, Wesley Digh of Asheville, NC; and sisters, Nan Pyle of Powell, TN and Betty Coates of Kingsport, TN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Victor, Russell, James Phifer, Albert Sherrill, Andrew “Pete”, John Henry, and Jack Edward Davis; and sisters, Nellie Wilson, Lola Margaret Davis, and Helen Kozell.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Monday, March 5, 2018 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church with Rev. Paul McClure and Rev. April Abernethy officiating.  At other times the family will be at the residence.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to the Building Fund of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 2239 NC 181, Morganton, NC 28655.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
