Philip Henry Pitts, Jr., 70, Charlotte, North Carolina went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 11, 2013. He was born on August 17, 1942 in Morganton, NC to Philip Henry Pitts and Vivian Hilton Pitts, and was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Noah O. Pitts of Glen Alpine, NC. Mr. Pitts graduated from the Darlington school in Rome, Georgia and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.A service in celebration of Mr. Pitts’ life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 in the Chapel of Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, NC, with gathering of family and friends following the service. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church in Glen Alpine, NC with military honors being provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Guard.He was passionate about his family friends, and his career. Mr. Pitts was one of the fortunate to love his work. He took his first flying lessons while in college, and later became a captain with Piedmont/US Airways, his lifelong dream. All who knew Phil knew of his love for flying, travel, golf, and being with loved ones. His great sense of humor will be dearly missed.Phil is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jackie Brendle Pitts; two daughters, Susan Pitts Allbert (Dr. John Allbert); Kelly Pitts Harrick (Jeff); grandchildren, Caroline and Ann Brendle Allbert, and Jeffrey and Wilson Harrick. Mr. Pitts is also survived by his sister Rebecca Pitts Mitchell (Jimmy); one niece and nephew and one sister-in-law Becky Pitts.
