Philip “Dude” Whisnant, 74, of Morganton, NC, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
Born in Burke County, NC on April 7, 1951, he was the son of the late Ned Cody Whisnant and Mary Phillips Whisnant.
Dude was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and had attended Zion Baptist Church. He retired from the City of Morganton’s Water Department. He enjoyed NASCAR, landscaping, and working on tractors.
Those left to cherish his memory include his first cousins, Ty Chapman, Tracy Chapman, David Whisenant, Darrel Whisnant, Mike Smith, and Ann Peeler; niece, Jennifer Whisnant; and numerous other extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Joyce Jordan Whisnant; and a brother, Steve Whisnant.
The graveside service will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Fairview Church Cemetery with Rev. David Orders officiating. The family will greet friends in the cemetery following the service. Philip will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Sossoman Funeral Home.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Philip was one of my all time favorite customers and will be greatly missed. He was so kind to me from the first time we met. He was one of kind and I wish I got to know him for longer. I was shocked to hear of his sudden passing but it was his time to go home and be without pain. May you rest in peace.
