Phifer Pearson, 76, of Morganton, NC went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on December 16, 1936, he was the son of the late Lewis Earnest Pearson, Sr. and Brunie Murray Pearson. Phifer was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church where he served as an usher and a tiller. He retired from Shadowline Corporation as a supervisor after 44 years of service. Phifer was a U.S. Air Force veteran from 1957 until 1961, having served 2 years in Nebraska and 2 years in Seville, Spain. He later served with the National Guard.A loving father and granddaddy, Phifer is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Parker Pearson of the home; a son, David Allen Pearson and his fiancée, Tammy Renée Stamey, of Morganton; grandchildren, Dakota Allen Pearson and his fiancée, Chelsea Marie Clontz, and Kalie Elizabeth Pearson, all of Morganton; a great-granddaughter, Alleigh Marie Pearson; a brother, James Howard Pearson and his wife, Tammy, of Morganton; sisters, Mary Catherine Carswell and Annie Belle Roper and her husband, Roy Vernon Roper, all of Morganton; and a sister-in-law, Diane Pearson.In addition to his parents, Phifer was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Earnest Pearson, Jr.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Burkemont Baptist Church with the Reverends Dr. David Mills, Eddy Bunton, and Dr. Keith Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral.
