Peggy Dale Chapman, 81, of Morganton, NC died on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 following an accident.  Peggy was born in Burke County on September 29, 1935 to the late Homer Bynum Dale and Gertrude Poteat Dale. She was a woman who loved the Lord her God and lived her entire life as an unfailing witness for Him. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, and cherished her grandsons and granddaughter-in-law beyond measure. She was the unfailing cheerleader, rock and foundation of support to her family, who constantly provided wise and Godly counsel. She leaves her family with an amazing legacy of love.

Over the course of her life she maintained her personal Bible study time, was an avid prayer warrior, taught Sunday school for 40 years and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was a Registered Nurse, an artist, genealogist, and writer. She sketched and painted beautiful pictures and did many portraits which she often donated back to the subject. She spent years exploring the genealogy of her family and ultimately wrote 2 genealogical books: Pruitt Progeny & Diehl Descendants. She became so captivated by the rich history of faith she found as she researched the Dale family, that she embarked on a work of historical fiction entitled "One German Emigrant” which speaks of German emigration to America following the reformation and follows her ancestor: Henry Diehl from Germany to the Henry River in the Lower Fork Region of western NC. She did all the artwork in the book, including the cover and provided presentations about it across the Southeastern United States while she was able to do so.

Peggy is survived by her daughters Constance Chapman Stines and her husband, Harrell; Wendy Chapman Maney and her husband Joe, all of Morganton: two grandsons including, Joseph McKinley Maney and Jacob Homer Maney and his wife, Heather Greer Maney. She is also survived by a son-in-law Glen Edward Smith of Morganton; Surviving siblings include Jack Billings Dale of Morganton, Grant Dale II, of Glen Alpine, and Britt Homer Dale of Morganton; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she loved. In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Willard McKinley Chapman, her precious daughter Victoria Chapman Smith and her sibling, Sandra Kay Dale Bradshaw Roper.

The funeral service for Peggy Chapman will be 11:30 am, Friday, November 18, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Cline and Rev. Eldon Hinegardner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Receiving of friends will be from 10:30 to 11:30 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church prior to the service.
