Peggy C. Duckworth, 88, of Morganton, NC died Friday, September 18, 2015. Born in Catawba County, NC on November 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Rob Roy Campbell and Laura Gertrude Houk Campbell. Peggy was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and was Salutatorian of her Balls Creek High School graduating class of 1944. She loved her family and members of her Sunday school class.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Carole Daves and her husband, Harold; step-children, Becky Craig and her husband, Bob, Bobby Duckworth and his wife, Gaye, Sue Eggers and her husband, Kenny, and Jerry Duckworth and his wife, Lori; grandchildren, Michelle Clark and her husband, Alan, Betsy Steele, and Michael Steele and his wife, Daphne; step-grandchildren, Robin Stephenson and her husband, Cary, Erin Duckworth, Dr. Meredith Taylor and her husband, Matt, Jason Duckworth and his wife, Sara, Melissa Biggs and her husband, Kevin, Rev. Rob Craig, Ben Eggers and his wife, April, and Jaime Mack and her husband, Dennis; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, Elbert Duckworth; a son, Jimmy Steele; five brothers; and three sisters.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Grace Heights for the loving care shown to their mother and grandmother during her stay.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Hopewell Baptist Church. The funeral will be held in the church at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Danny Emory officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
