Paulrita “Polly” “Pinky” Carswell, 82, of Morganton, NC passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017. Born in Burke County, NC on April 8, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles Compton Hawkins and Estelle Gladys Mull Hawkins. Paulrita was a member of Mulls Grove Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and was on the kitchen committee.
Mrs. Carswell is survived by a daughter, Lynn Causby of Morganton; grandchildren, Jennifer Snow and husband, Terry, and Cameron Scism; great-grandchildren, C. J. Snow and Kadin Scism; a sister, Betty Gladden; her special canine companion, Baby; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Paulrita was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, William Ervin Carswell; a brother, Bill Joe Hawkins; and a son-in-law, Johnny Causby.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm, Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Mulls Grove Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3pm at the church with Brother Bud Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home on Salem Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2608, Morganton, NC 28680 to assist with funeral expenses.
