Paul M. Davis, 80, of Powell, TN died Friday, August 15, 2008 at his residence. He was born August 15, 1928 in Morganton, NC to the late Vance M. and Ethel Buff Davis. He was married to Bythia Conley Davis of Morganton, NC, who preceded him in death on December 22, 1982.

He was a representative of the International Chemical Workers union servicing local unions in the southern states until 1961. He was then relocated from Morganton, NC to Marietta, OH and serviced locals in Ohio, NJ, WV, PA, DE and Washington, D.C. In 1966, at the annual convention of the ICWU in Montreal, Canada the delegates elected him Vice President of the International Chemical Workers Union and Director of Region IV, which covered the Mid-Atlantic States, a position he held until his retirement in 1981.He is survived by a son, Charles Davis and his wife, Lorraine, of North Brunswick, NJ: daughters, Judy Christopher and her husband, Wayne, of Belpre, OH and Kathy Davis and her fiancée, Harold Barnes of Powell, TN; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Clifton; Alfred; Gerry; Donnie; and a sister Margaret Franklin. In addition to his parents and his wife, Paul was preceded in death by brothers William and James Davis, and by a sister, Louise Gosnell.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at El Bethel Baptist Church in Morganton where he was a member with his brother, Dr. Donald Davis, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Monday at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour. At other times the family will be at the Sleep Inn in Morganton.
