Paul Edward Epley, 80, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 10, 2023.

Born in Burke County, NC on August 27, 1942, he is the son of the late Lennie Washington Epley and Ivy Estelle Watts Epley. Paul was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and known for saying “to God be the glory.” He retired from Duke Power after 30 years of service and enjoyed being outside, especially hunting or fishing. Most of all, Paul loved spending time with his grandchildren.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Epley is survived by his wife, Bonnie Elizabeth “Lib” Butler Epley; sons, Chad Epley (Sherrie) and Kerry Epley (Emily); grandchildren, Rebecca Epley Brown (Hampton), Jesse Epley, Aaron Epley, Logan Morris, Savannah Epley, and Chesnee Epley; brother, Wayne Epley (Brenda); niece, Rachel Epley Holland (Rick); great-niece, Sarah Holland; and great-nephew, Nate Holland.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Trinity Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. in the Church with Pastor Tim Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 3333 Trinity Church Road, Valdese, NC 28690.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Loved Me some Paul Epley! I am so sad to hear of Paul’s passing away. He was such a good friend and taught me so much about Faith, Family, Friendships, and of course, the Outdoors. I had the good fortune to spend many hours with Paul on Lake James and cherished every minute with him - A Very Special Friend!! I will miss him dearly! My thoughts and prayers are with you Lib and Your Family.
