Patrick Stephen Messick, 66, of Morganton, NC passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017. Born in Durham County, NC on August 30, 1951, he was the son of the late Paul Messick and Margaret Fitzgerald Messick. Patrick was a member of Horizon Church in Morganton. He was in law enforcement for 25 years, having served with the Hickory Police Department, Morganton Department of Public Safety, and the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. He volunteered at the Christian Outreach Center and American Red Cross, and he was associated with the Valdese Lion’s Club.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Melonie Barrier Messick of the home; sons, Christopher Messick fiancée, Nicole Neubauer, and Eric Messick, all of Morganton; daughters, Tara Scott-Singley of Riverview, FL, Whitney Messick fiancé, Michael Baker, of Morganton, and Genna Messick of Dunedin, FL; 7 grandchildren, Jacob Honeycutt, Jacob Barnette, Linnea Scott-Singley, Isabella Messick, Jacob Baker, Layla Baker, and one more on the way; brothers, Paul Messick of Pittsboro, NC, Mike Messick of Mt. Airy, NC, and Ken Messick of Liberty, NC; mother-in-law, Rose Mary Barrier of Valdese; and his canine companion and best friend, Miley.
In addition to his parents, Patrick was preceded in death by an aunt, Elvira Messick.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Fortune and Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the home on Parker Lane.
