Patricia Lee Summers Harris

Patricia Lee Summers Harris, 70, of Valdese, NC unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2013. Born in Buncombe County, NC on February 14, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Carl Summers and Mayo Erlene Walker Summers. Patricia was a lifetime member of Enon Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was the Sunday School Director, directed Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the Women of Faith. She received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Appalachian State University and taught kindergarten for the Burke County Public Schools. She was an avid flower gardener and loved her family unconditionally.Patricia is survived by her husband, Kenneth Allen Harris of the home; children, Kendra Leigh Harris Baker and her husband, Jerry Wayne Baker of Drexel, NC, Kevin Neel Harris of Drexel, and Kory Allen Harris and his wife, Tonya Marie Chapman Harris of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Justin Gantt Turner, Zachary Lee Turner, MacKenzie Leigh Baker, Michael Morgan, Leah Crochet, Hannah Harris, Jeremiah Harris, Morgan Marie Harris, and Jordan Allen Harris; great-grandchildren, Alaina Crochet, Colby Crochet, Alexander Crochet, and Jaden Morgan; and a sister, Carla Kaye Summers Moore and her husband, Danny Morrison Moore.In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Whisnant.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Enon Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral.Memorial contributions may be made to Enon Baptist Church’s "See the Need" Children’s Program, 2059 Enon Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
