Oliver Michael Jarrett, 73, of Morganton, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Born in Burke County, NC on January 11, 1953, he was the son of the late Oliver Billings Jarrett and Wilma Virginia Wise.
Michael attended Hopewell Baptist Church. His passion was exotic birds, and he was a member of the Smoky Mountain Caged Bird Society. He retired from the furniture business after 48 years.
A loving father and grandfather, Mr. Jarrett is survived by his daughter, Christine Jarrett Fulbright (Dean); step-daughter, Michelle Flowers (Steve); granddaughter, Summer Elizabeth Fulbright; brother, Kirby Bryan Jarrett (Patricia); and nephew, Kurt Bryan Jarrett (Sarah).
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Susan Keller Jarrett.
A celebration of Oliver’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Brayden Martin officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

We didn’t know Michael well or for very long, but even so, we know he was a good man, a smart man, a caring man, an and a God-loving man! It was always a pleasure to have a conversation with him and he will be missed.
So sorry to hear that Michael passed he was wonderful man, I grew up here I've known him most of my, my thought anf d prayers are with the family and friends.
I am so very sorry to hear this. Michael WAS the Smokey Mountain Cage Bird Society to me, and I will always be grateful for his presence at this event for bird lovers. My sympathy to you and your family, Michelle. An era has passed.
Micheal will be missed by so many. I was his nurse with home health but also considered him a friend. I pray for his family to have peace knowing that is in the arms of his savior Jesus Christ

Dear family I was so sad to read that Mike had passed away. He was wonderful man. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him at Hopewell Baptist Church. I know he knew the Lord and also know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord so we can all rejoice in his eternal destination. I went to school with Michael. He was a nice guy and I am very sorry for your loss.
Michael was such a bright light for me and my family! He will be greatly missed. Growing up he was a great mentor for me and was always full of kind loving words. I’ll always remember his love for birds and the Smoky Mountain Cage Bird Society. Krystal and I send our condolences and will cherish all our memories.
