Nyoka Jean Pope, 63, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 25, 2018.  Born in Avery County, NC on February 24, 1955, she was the daughter of the late John Frank Street, Jr. and Zulene Madeline Hoilman Street.  She was a member of Morganton First Assembly of God (FAM Church).  Nyoka was a selfless, kind individual who loved her family and friends, and she especially cherished her grandchildren.  She dedicated her life to the Lord, Jesus Christ.  She was strong in her faith and loved to pray for others.  She retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center.

Nyoka is survived by her daughters, Angela Pope Wortman (Jay) and Alicia Pope Bollinger (Jason); son, Keith Andrew Pope (Pa Kou); grandchildren, Nicholas, Noah, and Henry Wortman, Spencer, Dawson, Colton, and Sawyer Bollinger, and Riley and Madison Pope; siblings, Ed Burleson, Terry Burleson, and Simone Street; numerous extended family; the father of her children, Keith Pope; numerous friends who were cherished as sisters, her “sissy friends”; and her beloved canine companion, Sophie.

In addition to her parents, Nyoka was preceded in death by a sister, Shelia Ann Street.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 30 at Morganton First Assembly of God with Pastor John White and Dr. Alan Carr officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
