Norman Frank “Norm” Noe, 86, of Morganton passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 following a courageous struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Norm was known as a gentleman even in the last season of his life.
Norm was born in Columbus, Ohio on August 6, 1931, to the late Frank H. Noe and Cleo Osborne Noe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Norman Frank Noe, Jr. and brother Melvin Noe.
Norm is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda; brother, Dave Noe and wife Marilyn of Ohio; sister-in-law, Sue Noe of Ohio; daughter, Suzanne Saul and husband Glen of Ohio; grandchildren, Jennifer Watson and her husband Derek, Billy Peters, and Tim Peters and wife Angela; great-grandsons, Dale and Lane Watson and Zach and Tyler Peters.
Norm graduated from Ohio State University with a Master in Music Education where he was a member of the famous Ohio State Marching Band. He earned a degree in School Administration from Appalachian State University. Norm taught music in Ohio before moving to Raleigh, NC, where he taught band in the Raleigh City schools. After moving to Morganton, he taught band at Freedom High School and Salem Junior High. Norm was well known for his quality high school band programs.
'Mr. Noe' was well loved and respected by his students, their parents and other faculty members. His leadership and instruction guided students in the band program and instilled a life-long love of music.
Norm also served as assistant principal at several schools in Burke County.
He was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard, past president of the Optimist Club and an active member of First Union Methodist Church, where he served as interim choir director.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 pm, Friday, January 5, 2018 in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church. A celebration of Norm's life will follow at 3 pm in the church sanctuary with the Rev Dana McKim officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
