Norman Dewey Miller, 83, of the Oak Hill Community, died Thursday, February 16, 2012. Mr. Miller was born January 3, 1929 in Burke County to the late Paul Jackson Miller and Lula Smith Miller. He was a U.S. Naval veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Miller was a printer and worked for Artcraft Press and the News Herald. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and family and was a strong believer in honor, discipline, and respect.Mr. Miller is survived by a son, Mark Miller and his wife, Kathy, of Morganton; grandsons, Nathan Miller of Morganton and Bill Wilkins and wife, Mandy, of Wilmington, NC; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Faye Miller; a sister, Nadean Whisnant of Morganton; and a host of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bell Deal Miller; brothers, Jackson, Victor, Luther, Alwan, and Paul Miller; and sisters, Susie Mae Whisnant and Minnie Whisnant.A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm. Monday, February 20, 2012 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. George Logan officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church Care Ministries, 3394 Pea Ridge Rd., Morganton, NC 28655 or to New Day Christian Church Building Fund, PO Box 1864, Morganton, NC 28680. Sossoman Funeral Service and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
