Nina Faye Thompson Anderson, 93, of Morganton, NC, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Born in Burke County, NC on January 17, 1933, she was the daughter of the late William Vance Thompson and Bessie Louise Clontz Thompson.

Nina was a longtime member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. She taught first and second grade children’s Sunday school for more than 25 years, was active in the United Methodist Women, was a member of the Mabel Harbison Sunday School Class, and was a member of the Do Your Own Thing group. Nina participated in several disaster response mission teams to North Carolina and Mississippi.

She was an exceptional cook and loved cooking and baking, especially her chicken pie and chocolate pound cake. Nina loved writing cards and found joy in nature’s beauty, especially birds and flowers, and she loved spending time with her beloved family. She worked at Sigri Great Lakes Carbon for over 43 years.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kristen A. Richardson and husband, Charles; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Anderson; son, C. David Anderson; brothers, William Thompson (Alpha) and Bobby Thompson (Jettie); sisters, Sara Thompson and Mildred Leonhardt (Gordon); beloved sister-in-law, Susie Walden (Bill); and a number of extended family whom she cherished.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Adam Love officiating and the graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends in the church MPAC building after the services.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mamie Tate, Paula Watkins and the staff of Amorem Hospice, especially Nurse Heaven, who helped Nina live out her days at home. They would also like to thank the care team at Burke Primary Care for the compassionate care shown to Nina.
