Nina Etheleen Crawley Parker, 79, of Fort Myers, FL, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, following a long and courageous battle against cancer. Born in Burke County, NC, on February 3, 1933, she was the fourth daughter of the late Ernest Molton Crawley and Flossie Mae Denton Crawley.Nina was valedictorian (1951) of Banoak High School in Vale. After graduation she worked along with her sisters at Shadowline in Morganton. In 1952, Nina married Clyde Parker and they moved to Baltimore, MD in 1953. They started Parker Well Drilling in Baltimore and along with their sons, continued the company after moving to Ft. Myers, FL in 1977. They also operated a small grocery store and restaurant in Fort Myers, where Nina loved to share her great southern recipes with customers.Nina Parker is survived by Clyde Parker of Vale; and their four children, Nathan Parker, Wesley (Candace) Parker, Victoria (Michael) Taylor of Fort Myers, and Cynthia (Richard) Paxton of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Jason, April, and Kaylee Ann Parker and Renee Paxton; great-grandchildren, Abigail Larson, Tyler and Dylan VanGraafeiland and JaAllen and Ja’Unnaha Parker; brothers, Jackson Crawley and Wayne Crawley; sisters, Opealee Jonas, Doris Peeler, Kathryn Johnson, Landis Stewart, Reba Abernethy and Gail Crawley; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Smith and Vergie Norman; a brother, Raymond Crawley; and an infant brother.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Reverends Harold Whitener, Dr. Larry Cline, and Mr. Don Denton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour.Memorial contributions may be made to The Enola Group, 300 Enola Rd., Morganton, NC 28655, Cape Coral Hospice House, 2430 Diplomat Parkway East, Cape Coral, FL 33909, or to a charity of choice.
