Nina D. Chapman, 81, of Morganton died Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Nina was born June 4, 1933 in Burke County to the late Lincoln Denton and Martha Miller Denton.
Nina was a lifelong homemaker, a bookkeeper for Chapman Lumber, and was also employed at Skyland Textile and Roses. Nina loved and cherished her church family at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and her neighbors/friends of the Enola community, who were always supportive of her. She was involved with the church WMU circle group and the homebound ministry. A dedicated wife, mother and grandparent, she loved her grandkids and they likewise adored her.... " ol' maw maw ". A pretty good cook in her day, she would rise at 5:15 a.m. on work and school days to make homemade biscuits and sawmill gravy. She also enjoyed a lifetime special bond with all of her brothers and sisters. In her youth she played piano with the Denton Quartet, along with her siblings. She loved to hear and sing gospel songs.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Carolina Rehab of Burke, which was her residence her final four years. Each person on EVERY level surrounded her with love, respect, and encouragement. They ALL became an extension of the Chapman family, of which we will always be grateful and have precious memories that will linger. We would also like to give a heartfelt thanks to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.
In addition to her parents Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Harry “Wilson” Chapman; and siblings, Clyde and Hubert “Hub” Denton.
Nina is survived by her children, Paul Chapman and Bryan Chapman and wife, Pam all of Morganton; grandchildren, Hamen Wilson Chapman, Issac Davis Chapman, Miller Ellen Lacy and Laura Francis Chapman; siblings, Leroy Denton, Wade Denton, Naomi Winchester and Vergie Swinson; niece and caregiver, Lou Chapman; and special caregivers, Joyce and Richard Smith and Barb and Ken Mustoe.
A celebration of Nina’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddy Bunton and Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
