Nelson Edward Walker

Nelson Edward Walker, 64, of Flint Avenue in Morganton died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Valdese Hospital following a brief illness. He was born February 23, 1944 in Cleveland County, NC, and was a son of the late Wilbur Odus Walker and Evie Howard Walker. Nelson was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed traveling and never met a stranger. Nelson also enjoyed reading the newspaper, and loved visiting his grandson.He is survived by his wife, Bernice Valerie Hiatt Walker of the home; a daughter, Andrea Freeman and husband, Tim, of Wilmington, NC; a grandson, Tristan Freeman of Wilmington; and brothers, Arnold, Bobby, and Tim Walker.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Walker.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 17, 2008 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Homer Murdock and Rev. Tim Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 16, 2008 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
