Nellie Sue Smith Dale

Nellie Sue Smith Dale, 85, of Rhyne Street, Morganton, NC died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at her residence. Born in Burke County, NC on August 8, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Cicero Kelly Smith and Sally Mae Suttle Smith. Nellie was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She owned and operated Dukes Book Store in downtown Morganton for many years before transferring to the NC School for the Deaf from which she retired.She is survived by her son, Bryant Douglas Dale of Sacramento, CA; a sister-in-law, Doris Smith of Wadesboro, NC; nieces and nephews, Janice Smith of Wadesboro, NC, Jerry Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Bobby Fehrs of St. Augustine, FL, Barry Fehrs of Dallas, TX, Linda Fehrs of Morganton, and Karen Dale of Morganton.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bryant Franklin Dale, and brothers, William Harold Smith and Warren Gerald Smith.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Steve Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the residence, 112 Rhyne Street, Morganton.
