Mrs. Atrice Pardue McCann, 86, of Morganton, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Grace Ridge Retirement Community after an extended period of declining health.
Mrs. McCann was born September 17, 1930, in Wilkes County, N.C., to the late Nellie Mathis Pardue and James Murry Pardue. She was the eldest of their two children and is survived by her brother Clyde Pardue and wife Hilda of Clingman, NC.
Mrs. McCann graduated from Ronda High School in 1949 and married her high school sweetheart, Henry Clay McCann in 1950. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Winston Salem to pursue careers and start a family. She retired from Sara Lee Corporation after 42 years of service in the hosiery industry. Mrs. McCann enjoyed working and took special pride in caring for her yard and landscaping. She most enjoyed watching her 6 grandsons grow up and sharing in their life experiences. She moved to Grace Ridge Retirement Community in Morganton, NC, in 2008, to be closer to family as her health began to decline. She was a member of College Park Baptist Church in Winston Salem.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCann is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clay McCann.
Surviving are her two sons: Kim and wife Susan who live in Morganton, N.C. and their four sons, Mathis (Morganton, NC), William (Austin, TX), Hunter (Philadelphia, PA), Patrick (Chapel Hill, NC); and great granddaughter Lily (Morganton, NC). Mark and wife, Julia live in Athens, GA and their sons Zachary (Murfreesboro, TN) and
Joshua and Jennifer McCann reside in Mahomet, IL with great grandson Hudson Clay.
A graveside service will be held at 10AM, Saturday July 22nd, at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston Salem with the Rev. Ramon Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the chapel at Forsyth Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to College Park Baptist Church at 1701 Polo Road, Winston Salem, NC 27106.
Sossoman Funeral Service and Crematory and Forsyth Memorial Park are assisting the McCann family.
