Mr. Theodore "Bud" Carswell, 90, of Drexel, NC died Monday, May 26, 2008 at Valdese Hospital following a period of declining health. He was born December 25, 1917 in Burke County to the late Elisha and Perlie Brown Carswell. Theodore was a member of the Morganton First Church of God, and retired in 1983 from Alba-Waldensian with 40 years of service. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing checkers with friends and family.Theodore is survived by daughters, Betty Rockett and Lynda Davis, both of Valdese, Barbara Ritchie and husband, Slayton, of Taylorsville, and Janice Woodruff of Drexel; a son, Dennis T. Carswell of Ormond Beach, FL; a sister, Emma Bridges of Valdese; grandsons, Clay D. Ritchie of Valdese, Eric Rockett of Lenoir, Greg Davis of Morganton, Jay and Shawn Berry of Kingsport, TN, and Brian Woodruff of Drexel; granddaughters, Kathy Rockett Smith and Crystal Berry Ayers, both of Morganton, Robin Rockett Bowen of Taylorsville, Renee Davis Bradshaw of Valdese, and Denise Davis Clay of George Hildebran, 20 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Starnes Carswell; brothers, Johnny, Alvin, Asberry, Marshall, Lawrence, and David Carswell; sisters, Lizzie Carswell, Evan Abee, Mary Cooper, Ethel Rhoney, and Louise Thorne; and a son-in-law, Clyde L. Rockett.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Morganton First Church of God on Summers Rd. with Rev. Terry McGarrity and Rev. Donald J. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Drexel Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morganton First Church of God, PO Box 1404, Morganton, NC 28680. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
