Mona Jean Staver Odom

Mona Jean Staver Odom, 61, of Valdese, NC died unexpectedly Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Grace Hospital. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on June 16, 1951 and was a daughter of Harry Theodore Staver of Wisconsin and Lillian "Elizabeth" Brittain Walker of Morganton. Mona loved Jesus and was a faithful member of Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church, Lenoir, NC. She was devoted to her family, helping other people, and enjoyed playing the piano and singing.Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Donald "Donnie" Odom, Sr. of the home; her step-children, Connie Lee Johnston and husband, Greg of Hudson and Donnie Odom, Jr. of Icard; step-grandchildren, Heather, Sarah, Hunter, Christina, Stephanie, and Corey; a sister, Connie Denton and husband, Bobby, and a brother, Tommy Staver and wife, Lavone, all of Morganton. She also leaves behind her faithful canine companion, Sampson.Mona was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Tilghman and Lillian Brittain, and her step-father, Hardie Walker.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The family suggests memorials in Mona’s memory be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Morganton, NC 28690.
