Mitchell “Mickey” Wayne Prewitt, 54, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, July 13, 2017.  Born in Burke County, NC on January 26, 1963, he was the son of Phyllis Dills Banner and the late Sherley Holland Prewitt.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed trout fishing and pushing his Forerunners to their limits.

Mickey was first diagnosed with brain cancer in the early 90s, with a recurrence of a different type of brain cancer in the springs of 2016.  He dealt with the symptoms for years but never complained.  He lived his life to the fullest.

Mickey witnessed to anyone, anywhere, whether on top of a mountain, on the street, or in the doctor’s office.  He wanted everyone to know Jesus, and for the last few weeks he wanted to be with Jesus.  At 8am, Thursday, July 13, 2017, he got his wish.  Without a doubt, he was welcomed into the open arms of his Savior.

In addition to his mother, Mickey is survived by his son, Mitchell Garrett Prewitt; grandson, Mitchell Cameron Prewitt; brother, Michael Scott Prewitt; step-father, Raymond S. Banner; step-brother, Stacy Eugene Banner; uncles, Charles “Herb” Dills, Ralph Prewitt, Gary Prewitt, and Myron Robert Ingalls; aunt, Jackie Prewitt Holland; brothers by choice, Kenny Harney and Richard Murphy; and a special loyal friend, Nicole Mull.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2pm, Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  The memorial service will follow at 2pm in the church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Cline and Dr. Danny Emory officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2396 Enola Road, Morganton, NC 28655.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the love and care provided by the staff and volunteers of Burke Hospice.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
