Mildred Sue "Millie" Lingafeldt, 70, met her Heavenly Father just before dawn on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. She was a daughter of the late Ray and Nell Lingafeldt. Millie was a 1960 graduate of Drexel High School where she was a Drum Majorette, played basketball, and was Miss "Hi-Miss" of her senior class. Millie was a member of the Grace Hospital Guild and also volunteered with the Prison Fellowship organization. She sang with The Choraleers and also with the Senior Adult Choir at Burkemont Baptist Church. Millie was a secretary for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and retired in 1999. She enjoyed traveling, especially in Western Europe and Hawaii.Millie is survived by her daughter, Angie Holmes and partner, Sheila Fairchild, of Raleigh, NC; her son, Frank Holmes of Louisville, KY; a sister, Faye Willen and husband, Bob, of Greensboro, NC; brothers, Earl Lingafeldt and wife, Mozelle, of Belmont, NC, and Glenn Lingafeldt and wife, Tonia, of Denver, NC; and many nieces and nephews. Millie is also survived by her beloved poodle, Pierre.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Ann Lingafeldt, Sara Britt, and Katherine Lingafeldt.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2013 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Rev. Eddy Bunton and Rev. Charles Gibbons officiating. Entombment will follow at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at the church. At other times the family will be at the residence of Bryan and Pam Chapman.Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or to Prison Fellowship, 44180 Riverside Parkway, Lansdowne, VA 20176.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
