Our matriarch, Mildred Wilson passed into Heaven October 29, 2018 after an extended period of declining health. She was born in Avery County, NC June 24, 1932 to the late Paul and Martha Jane Marcus. Mildred was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Riverside Baptist Church. To know Mildred was to love her, she never met a stranger. She was full of courage, up for any adventure whether it involved her first airplane ride or her first ride on a jet ski! Although long removed from the mountains of NC she longed for the place she called home as a child.

Mildred worked in hosiery for a time but retired from furniture at Henredon in 1995.  Although she had several jobs in her life, the one she enjoyed the most was being a mother. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, baking, and reading.

Mildred is survived her husband of 48 years Bernhard Wilson; daughter, Joanna Yarbrough and husband, Dwayne (Alabama), Carmela Church and husband, Clyde (Hildebran, NC); sister, Shirley Mitchell of Lenoir, NC as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel P. Marcus; sisters, Belle Burleson, Esther Hughes, & Rosalyn Hopson; daughter, Martha Lynn Sullivan; and first husband, Claude Davis.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Riverside Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., November 1, 2018 in the church with the Revs David Kell and James Heffner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

We give thanks to God today for the amazing 86 years we were blessed with her presence and look forward to reuniting with her again in Heaven. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of College Pines Nursing Home. “You have each blessed and enriched our lives more than you will ever know. Your kindness and love to our mother, wife, sister was authentic and priceless. Thank you for your outstanding care!” In lieu of flowers: visit a resident in a nursing home, sit with a friend who needs you, deliver food or flowers to someone going through a difficult time, give your spouse a hug. Memorial donations can be made to Riverside Baptist Church, 516 NC 126, Morganton NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.sossomanfh.com.
