Mildred Maloney Coffey, 74, of Morganton, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 23, 2026, while surrounded by her family.
Born in Burke County, NC on May 27, 1952, she was the daughter of the late William Ernest Maloney and Velma Letha Orders Maloney.
Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who dearly loved her family and her dogs. She was talented at crafts, especially drawing, painting, and sewing. She also enjoyed baking and riding motorcycles.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Michele Cooke (Alan), Ronald Wayne Burnette II, and William Douglas “Dee” Beck (Lisa); grandchildren, Dakota Wayne Wilson (Lisa), Austin Otis Wilson (Natalie), Kelsey Burnette, Mason Cole Beck (Sara), Jaylin Samantha Beck, and Ronald Wayne Burnette; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Marilyn Janice Maloney Harrison and Wanda Maloney Fox; nephew, Dwayne Harrison; and niece, Melissa Lalondie (Scott).
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Wayne Burnette, Sr.; second husband, John Calvin Coffey; and a grandson, Chase Whisnant.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2026 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 28, 2026 in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with a grandson, Dakota Wilson, officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
