Mickalson “Mickey” Lewis Moses, 80, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 16, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Burke County, NC on August 24, 1936 and was the son of the late Lewis Daniel Moses and Corrie Edna McGalliard Moses. Mickey was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a very active member of the AFLCIO of Great Lakes Carbon for 43 years and remained active after retirement. He retired from Morganton Fire Department after 20 years where he helped found the Carbon City Station. He enjoyed working on his farm and caring for his livestock. He played football and basketball for Jug Wilson at Glen Alpine and was on numerous local softball teams. Mickey was a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony “Tony” Moses.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lila June Clark Moses; daughter, Lisa Moses Lieske; sons, Mickey Hoyle and Keith Hoyle and wife, Michelle all of Casar; grandchildren, Brennen Lieske, Sterling Lieske, Daniel Hoyle, Mia Hoyle, Landon Hoyle, Haley Hoyle, and Grace Hoyle; aunt, Martha Franklin; special brother-in-law, Bob Clark; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Reverends Douglas Goforth and Ralph Reep officiating, Burial will follow at Bridge 42 (formerly Calvin Heights) church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
