Michael A. Biggs

Michael A. Biggs, 64, of Conover, NC died Monday, June 27, 2011 at his residence. Born in Hamilton County, OH on October 28, 1946, he was the son of the late Claude Edgar Biggs, Sr. and Edna Mae Gillespie Biggs. Michael was a member of Arney’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Biggs was employed at Great Lakes Carbon for 27 years. He was a fan of NASCAR and major league baseball. A charismatic man, Michael was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He knew how to enjoy life.Michael is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kathryn Elizabeth "Libbie" Clontz Biggs of the home; children, Betty "Bug" Taylor, Glenda Taylor, John Biggs, Lisa Penley, Debbie Biggs, and Catherine Biggs; grandchildren, Bryan Jackson; Shasta Taylor, Herron and Ashley Harper, Hannah Taylor, Jennifer Winters, and Mark Jackson; eight-great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna "Happy" Cooke; and canine companions, Muffin, Peppy, and Annabella.In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Edgar Biggs, Jr.The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2011 at Arney’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Neal Brantley, Rev. David Hawkins, Rev. Betty Henson, and Chaplain Ken Swanson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658 or to Arney’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 101 Knowles Ave., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
