Merle Elaine Owens, 70 of Morganton North Carolina passed away on Friday March 30th 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Burke County, NC on November 25th 1947, she was the daughter of the late James Owens and Juanita Caldwell. She had worked in the cafeteria at Mountain View Elementary School. Miss Owens was a loving and devoted person with a generous heart and an unyielding smile which she carried throughout her life.
Merle is survived by her sister, Andra Surratt of Cincinnati, Ohio; nephew, Christopher Garrison of Morganton; and niece, Tiffany Surat of Cincinnati.
In addition to her parents, Miss Owens is preceded in death by her sister Marlon Garrison.
The celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, April 6th 2018 in the colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Reverend Eddie Johnson officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be held in Olive Hill Cemetery at a later date.
