Melba Elizabeth Wilson Bennett, 93 of Bennett Rd., Morganton, NC died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Sunrise Rehabilitation Center, Nebo, NC. Born in Mitchell County, NC on April 15, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Wiss Tate Wilson and Inez Ledford Wilson. Melba was a member of ?The Greatest Generation? and was proud to be a World War II Army wife. She was an active member of The First Baptist Church in Morganton and the Dorcas Sunday School class. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Johnson Bennett; and brothers, Ralph S. Wilson, Joe G. Wilson, Ray K. Wilson, and her twin, Mack Burton Wilson.Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, John Bennett and his wife, Joan and Michael L. Bennett and his wife, Shari all of Morganton; her daughter, Carolyn Bennett Norman and her husband, Ron of Nebo; grandchildren, Lindsey, Carrie, Emily, Heather, Matthew, and Glen; and seven great grandchildren.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Bennett Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.
