The Reverend McLendon "Mac" Harding Jamison, of Morganton, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Burke Hospice. Born July 3rd 1921 in Asheville, N.C. he was the son of the late Robert Jay Jamison and Grace Watkins Jamison. He attended Gardner Webb College in Boiling Springs, N.C. where he was recognized as a member of the Honorary Alumni. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mattie Melton Jamison, a brother, William Robert Jamison, Sr. and his "precious baby sister" Ruth Jamison Cline. Reverend Jamison was ordained into the ministry at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Morganton, N.C. He served the Lord at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Gantt’s Grove Baptist Church, Casar Baptist Church, Riverside Baptist Church in Asheville, and Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church in Lenoir where he resides as a member and Pastor Emeritus. He spent his retirement years as caregiver for his beloved wife, Mattie.He served as a Hospital Apprentice, Second Class on the U.S.S. Ranger with the United States Navy during World War II. Reverend Jamison was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.He is survived by a daughter, Elaine ( E.J.) Jamison Pruett and her husband, Kenneth Pruett of Rock Hill, S.C.; a daughter, Wende’ Jamison of Morganton, and his beloved grandchildren; Kent (AKA "Charlie Brown") McLyndon Pruett and wife, Debra; and Captain Keith (AKA "Snoopy") David Pruett and wife, Catherine of Rock Hill, S.C.; a special niece, Lynae’ Cline Vanasek and her husband Bob of Morganton; special friends who have gone above and beyond, Ms. Terry Jordan, Ms. Nancy Jordan, Ms. Doris Turbyfill and his best friend, Walter Randall and wife, Barbara; and his congregational friends, relatives and extended family members with whom he shared a special bond, and his grand-dogs "Gabriel" and "Snoopy".In addition he is survived by his sister-in-laws and a brother-in-law: Mary Melton Falls, Elizabeth Melton Bennett, Patricia Melton, and Crawford Melton and wife Estelene and a number of special nieces, nephews, and cousins.Funeral Services will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Larry Cline and Rev. Micah Piercy officiating. His daughter, Wende’ Jamison will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with his brothers in Christ; Rev. Arnold Bell, Rev. Dan Blackwell, Rev. Clyde Buckner, Rev. Jerry Gamble, Rev. Bobby Devinney, Rev. Robert Round, Mr. Walter Randall, Mr. Bobby Merrill, Mr. Larry Smith, Mr. Sherrill Cole serving as honorary pallbearers; Mr. Stacey Cain, Mr. Charles Keever, Mr. Eric Merrill, Dr. Gary Schattschneider along with members of the Salem Fire and Rescue will honorably serve as service pallbearers to assist his body to its final resting place.The Jamison family will receive friends from 3:30 pm until 5:00 pm prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers; as a final sentiment of love and appreciation to his beloved wife and her love for learning; memorials may be made to the Chad Cole Scholarship Fund, C/O Western Piedmont Community College, 1001 Burkemont Ave., Morganton, NC 28655.The Jamison family has entrusted arrangements to Sossoman Funeral Home of Morganton.
