McArthur "Arthur" Lowery

McArthur "Arthur" Lowery, Sr., 68, of Rockyford Street, Morganton, NC died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Grace Hospital. Born in Burke County, NC on March 21 1942, he was the son of the late Dewey Lowery and Lillie Willis Lowery. Arthur was a member of First Advent Christian Church. He worked as a surveyor for over thirty years with Malonee Surveying and Witherspoon Surveying. He was an avid gardener.A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Arthur is survived by his wife of fifty years, Ann Murphy Lowery of the home; a daughter, Angie Lowery Alexander and husband, Kevin, of Morganton; a son, McArthur "Mackie" Lowery, Jr. and fiancée, Lori Polk, of Morganton; granddaughters, Jessica and Erin Lowery; brothers, Albert Lowery and wife, Peggy, of Hartselle, AL, Robert Lowery and wife, Beverly, of Greeneville, TN, and Gene Lowery and wife, Sally, of Pontiac, MI; sisters, Faye Hennessee of Drexel, NC, Lois Jenson and husband, Ted, of Astatula, FL, Eula Swafford of Marion, NC, and Lillian Kincaid of Lenoir, NC; and a host of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Lester Lowery, and a sister, Pat Orr.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 11, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Taber officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the NC National Guard.
