Maxine "Mickey" Whisnant

Maxine "Mickey" Whisnant, 66, died Friday, December 14, 2012 at Mission Memorial Hospital. She was born in Burke County on July 3, 1946 and was a daughter of the late Cameron Tellis Whisnant and Lettie Anne Powell Whisnant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Cameron Whisnant, Jr., Charlie Whisenant, Billy Jack Whisnant, Joe Ben Whisnant, Thomas Jerry "Pinky" Whisnant, Jean Rarick, and "Bobbie" Clay.Mickey was a loving caregiver to friends and family alike. She enjoyed baseball and basketball and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the UNC Tarheels. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church.Mickey is survived by her daughter, Karen Whisnant; granddaughter, Renee Bailey and her husband, Sean, great-grandsons, Dylan and Hunter Bailey; siblings, Hannie Owens, Aileen Fisher and husband, Jerry, and Ronnie Whisnant and wife, Dinah all of whom live in Morganton; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other extended family members.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Zion Baptist Church with the Reverends Steve Parker and Keith Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the church.
