Max W. Chapman, 95, of Morganton went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 12, 2021.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 13, 1925, he was the son of the late Samuel Chapman and Emma Watts Chapman.  Max was a faithful member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church.

He served with the 2nd Division of the US Marine Corps during the Pacific Campaign of WWII.  He retired from Broughton Hospital as supervisor of the carpenter shop with 30 years of service.  Max also served on the board of Brentwood Water for 35 years, having served as vice president.

Max was an honorable, hard-working man who enjoyed traveling and reminiscing,

Max is survived by his beloved family, including his wife, Lottie Clark Chapman; children, Wanda Chapman Mathis (Bobby Joe), William Joseph Morrow (Judy), Lisa Fike, Curtis Fike (Susan), and Suzanne Crawford; grandchildren, Dwight Aaron Mathis (Melissa), Renee McGalliard (Corey), John Epley, Courtney Carswell (Jamie), Zachary Fike (Emily), Nicole Conen (Ari), Haleigh Ware, Emily Crawford (fiancé, Alek Epley), and Jake Crawford; great-grandchildren, Justin Tyler Parlier (Ashley), Dana Parlier, Amanda Mathis, Jessie Mathis, and Wesson McGalliard; 8 step-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lee Chapman; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Smith Chapman; grandchildren, Wendy Mathis Franklin and Joey Allen Morrow; great-grandchild, Azriel Kole Mathis; brother, Ollis Chapman; and sisters, Ivey Chapman Gilbert and Annre Peeler.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Revs. Dr. Darren Browning, Darvy Hensley, and Chris Dale officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the US Marine Corps and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
