Maureen Tucke Johnson, 69, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Burke Hospice Palliative Care Center. She was born in Concord, NH on May 11, 1944 and was the daughter of the late John Parker Tucke and Mildred Marie Finch Tucke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Clare Johnson, Jr. and by an infant sister.

Maureen was raised in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and earned her master’s degree in psychiatric nursing. She served as Director of Nursing for the State of Connecticut and taught at the Foxboro School of Nursing. In 1977 she and her husband moved to Morganton where she continued her nursing career. Maureen was founder and owner of Nature’s Bounty of Morganton and was very active with many community organizations including board membership of Flynn Christian Fellowship Home, Downtown Development, Burke County Friends for Animals, and the Burke Arts Council. She was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.Maureen was dearly beloved by family and friends, and was blessed with a loving, compassionate, tender, and generous spirit. She was the consummate servant of God. She always gave unselfishly to promote the welfare of others while surrendering all self-serving interests. Maureen was the spiritual epitome of God’s love. To paraphrase from 1 Cor. 13, she was patient, endured all things, believed the best of others, never lost hope, and loved everyone with the tender mercies of Jesus the Christ. Her love never failed!Surviving are her brother, John Tucke of Escondido, CA; step-daughter, Lynne Ellen Johnson of Vancouver, British Columbia; nephew, Michael Tucke of Escondido; nieces, Katherine Tucke Gill of Wenatchee, WA, Amanda Tucke Moore of Temecula, CA and Laura Tucke Nelson of Albany, OR; and a number of cousins and other extended family members.The funeral Mass will be held at Noon, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Fr. Kenneth Whittington officiating. The Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center after which the family will receive friends until 7:30 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 728 W.
