Mary Sue Anderson Smith, 88, of Westwood Ave., High Point, NC and a former Glen Alpine resident, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at her daughter’s residence in High Point. She was born in McDowell County on March 30, 1922 and was a daughter of the late James S. Anderson and Bessie Julia Laughridge Anderson. Sue worked in the ladies shoe department at the Burands Clothing Store. For many years she also was an active member of Calvin Heights Baptist Church where she was involved in the baby ministry. She was a wonderful caregiver for her mother, husband and other family members. She worked diligently for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She was very creative and artistic and loved scrapbooking. Sue was an excellent seamstress and loved making clothing for her daughters. She was an ardent animal lover. Above all, she was a mother and nurturer.Sue is survived by her daughters, Judy Smith Beach and husband, Jim of Richmond, VA and Susan Smith Cheek and her husband, Joe of High Point, NC; grandchildren, Jimmy Beach and wife, Terri, Michelle Beach Wagner, Claudette Perkins Bollinger, Ned Perkins, Jr., Ashley Cheek Clark and husband, Brandon; great-grandchildren, Jason Perkins, Meghann Bollinger Deal and husband, Aaron, Shawn Wagner, David Wagner, Kristin Wagner and Brian Allen; great great-grandchildren, Brent and Gavin Perkins, Blaze and Phillip Perkins, Cherish Dale, Kaelyn Bollinger and Jocelyn Deal; son-in-law, Ned Perkins, Sr. of Morganton; a number of nephews and nieces; and special friends, Helen McGee, Steven Doxtad and Dave Abernathy.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon E. Smith; daughter, Sonja "Tonnie" Perkins; granddaughter, Aimeé Perkins; great grandson, Phillip Dale; a sister and four brothers.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service. Memorial gifts may be made to Burke County Friends for Animals, P. O.
