Mary Presnell Greene, age 79, of Morganton, NC, passed away on January 19, 2026.
Mary was born in Morganton, NC on March 3, 1946 to Leander Presnell and Virginia Seagle Presnell. Mary married Thurston Greene Sr. of Spring Hope, NC on August 25,1962 in Gaffney, SC.
Mary, "Mawmaw," loved spending time with her family, her grand, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking meals and baking for her family and friends. Her most enjoyable job was working with her grandson. Mary was devoted to her church, Bible Missionary Baptist Church, and church family. She held several positions within the church and participated in numerous groups and activities. She was a faithful and God-fearing woman. Mary was selfless, genuine, and a sweet spirit. She loved unconditionally and was loved deeply by all who knew her. Mary was a committed wife to her husband, Thurston Greene, Sr., for 63 loving years. Her memory will live forever in the hearts of her loved ones.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Thurston Greene, Sr.; daughter, Pamela Greene Coleman (Kenny Davis); son, Thurston Greene, Jr. (Onna); grandchildren, Thurston Greene, III, Timothy Greene (Maureen), Steven Greene (Chloe), Harmony Palmer, Landon Coleman, Trenton Davis, Kayedon Greene, and Austin Greene; great-grandchildren; Grace Palmer, Regan Parsons, Aubrey Moses, Conner Greene, Declan Greene, Kai Palmer, Adler Greene, and Azlyn Greene; sister, Ruth Presnell Belcher; sisters-in-law, Joyce Greene and Janie Presnell; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and other family alike.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Presnell; and grandson, Riley Moses.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Greene will be held at noon, Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Bible Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Watkins and Pastor Nathan Lowman officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mary was a friend to all. Our Kids went to school together and I worked with mary at premier hosery. She Always had a smile for everybody. Sending prayers for the family
Mary was the Best!! She was one of my first friends when I moved down South Her sweet Daughter, Pam was actually the first friend, & Mary was a close second. :) She had a heart of Gold, & will be missed by all. I pray for all her Family, & I hope they can find some comfort with all the wonderful memories they have. Mary is walking along the Angels now. 🙏❤️
It was a pleasure meeting and working with Mrs. Mary she always had a smile and was so helpful with her experience and enthusiasm. I so appreciate the times I got to know and spend with her. Mrs Mary was absolutely a woman of god she truly brighten the day with her smiles and love she had for all even for the church she truly will be missed and we are praying for the family ur in our thoughts and prayer we love yall and Mrs Mary u made it there before us but u are singing with the angels now and walking with god on them streets of gold I love you one day we will meet again ❤️

I cannot express how much Mary meant to me. I love her in death as much as I loved her in life. My deepest, deepest sympathies to her family, and especially her husband, Thurston. Everyone who knew Mary was enormously blessed.
