Mary Matthews Ray, 61, of Morganton, NC passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025. She was born on October 21, 1963 in Forsyth County to the late Gerald Matthews and Dorothy Hise Matthews. Mary loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, drawing and coloring, working in arts and crafts. She also enjoyed watching movies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Laura Ann Williams. Mary is survived by her husband, Leroy Ray; son, James Dakota Ray (Lauren Ray); grandchildren, Raelyn Faith Ray and Benjamin Luke Ray; brothers, Kevin Matthews and Curtis Matthews. The family will receive friends from 5-6pm on Thursday, March 22, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 6pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home. The service will be officiated by Rev. Mike Woodey Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
