Mary Jo Smith

Mary Jo Smith, 95, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Born in Burke County, NC on November 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joe Franklin and Grace Orders Franklin.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she worked for over 50 years at Morganton Hosiery. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening. She also enjoyed flowers, especially roses, but she most enjoyed spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Tommy Smith (Sherri); grandson, Chad Smith (Victoria); great-grandchildren, Alexis Campbell (Tyler) and Laiken Baker (Colby); great-great-granddaughter, Addie Lynn Campbell; brother, Gene Franklin (Ruth); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Smith; and numerous brothers and sisters.

The graveside service will be held at noon, Friday, January 30, 2026 at Burke Memorial Park with Rev. Dean Gurley officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
