Mary Jane Egbert Reed departed her earthly body, with her children at her bedside, as her spirit went to be with Jesus. She was born June 19, 1945 in Greensboro, North Carolina, the youngest child of Gordon and Grace Egbert. She graduated from Grimsley high school, later graduating from UNC Greensboro. While in high school, she enjoyed playing many sports. Her love for tennis continued throughout her life with her attending many tournaments with her tennis team.
She worked as a computer programmer /analyst for several companies with her last employer being Burlington Industries. Following her retirement from BI she became a massage therapist. Her patients and family were appreciative of her skills to alleviate pain.
Mary Jane was known as “Mims” to her five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and her church. She trusted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was the youth advisor to middle school church members accompanying them on mission trips to Mexico.
Mary Jane is survived by son Alex Reed, wife Jamie; daughter Wendy Callahan, husband Fred; granddaughters Mackenzie Croegaert, husband Corey; Abby Reed; Katie Callahan; grandsons Thad Craney, wife Allison; Collin Callahan. Her great grandchildren are Cooper and Cora.
A celebration of life is scheduled for the spring when all of her grandchildren will be able to attend.
The family wish to thank Grace Ridge Retirement Community and the assisted and memory care units for the care, compassion, and love they provided.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
