Mary Hurt Anderson

Mary Hurt Anderson, 91, of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019. Born on March 5, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Jasper and Rosalie Hurt. Mary was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Morganton. She was a member of the Cauble-Dorcas Sunday School Class. Mary was a member of the Burke County Selective Services for 20 years and retired with Veterans Affairs. She loved gardening, canning, baking, cooking, and loved to share her bounty with her friends and family.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Lynn Anderson McGimsey (Mike); sister-in-law, Carol Hurt; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burton Anderson, Sr.; son, Robert Burton “Bobby” Anderson, Jr.; siblings, Eller Mae Simmons, Dorothy Grady, Irene Sides, Jean Lane, J.A. Hurt, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am, Monday, December 30, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Fred Schuszler officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Morganton.
