Mary Hollis Stephenson, 88, of Morganton, NC passed away Monday, October 3, 2016. Born in Brunswick County, NC on August 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late George Sylvester Hollis, Sr. and Lillian Holford Hollis. She retired from Morganton Junior High School.
Mrs. Stephenson was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Her church was very important to her; she cherished her church family. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary delighted in cooking for her family. She was a sweet, gentle soul who loved everyone.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Kathie Robinson and her husband, Steve, of Morganton and Holly Ceragioli of Nashville, TN; a daughter-in-law, Sonja Stephenson of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Todd Stephenson, Wendy Batten, Daniel Robinson, Linsi Robinson, Craig Ceragioli, Anthony Ceragioli, and Beth Ceragioli; great-grandchildren, Megan, Caleb, Collier, Boone, Will, Sammie, Jace, and Danny; special nieces, Janet Hall, Sandi Williams, Betty Turner, and Nancy Sullivan; and a number of other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert Darnell Stephenson; a son, Michael Darnell Stephenson; brothers, George Sylvester Hollis, Jr. and Frances Hollis; sisters, Elizabeth Hollis Anderson and Eleanor “Dinky” Hollis Dale; and a special friend, Clyde Tallent.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Friday in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
