Mary Ellen Gantt, 94, of Morganton, NC, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025.
Born in Burke County, NC on October 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Wilson Monroe Powell and Sallie Killion Powell.
Mary worked in the X-ray Department at Grace Hospital for a number of years. She also babysat children. She enjoyed camping and dearly loved her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Jeffory D. Gantt; daughter, Joyce Ann Summerow; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Huffman; grandchildren, Kristopher B. Huffman, Tyrel “Adam” Patton, and Dennis Huffman; great-grandson, Jacob Dale Huffman; and a sister, Louse Morgan.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ricky Huffman; brothers, Marvin, Roy, and Buck Powell; and a sister, Paulin Austin.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Mr. Allen Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
