Mary E. “Mimi” Duckworth, 80, of Morganton went to heaven on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 and into the loving arms of her husband, Walt.  She was surrounded by family and loved ones.  Their special love story is now complete.  Born in Burke County, NC on February 8, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Sallie Powell.  She was a member of East Valdese Baptist Church.

Mary was an outstanding sales professional for Lazarus of Morganton for many years.  She loved her family, church, and work, and she had many friends.

Mrs. Duckworth could always find the good in people.  The world will be a slightly darker and colder place without her.  She would not want you to dwell on the change, but would want you to “make the world a little bit better place in your own way.”

Mary is survived by her son, Barry Eugene Duckworth and his wife, Carolee, of Sherrills Ford, NC; a daughter, Robin Duckworth Perdieu and her husband, Thomas, of Morganton; grandchildren, Destiny Duckworth Badgett, Dylan Christian Duckworth, and Sallie Anne Perdieu; step-grandchildren, Kenneth Michael Lane and Brian Alexander Lane; a great-grandchild, Stella Montine Duckworth; two step-great-grandchildren, Drake Evan Lane and Chase Carter Lane; brothers, Thomas Powell and his wife, Carrie, of Burke County and Wayne Powell and his wife, Sandy, of Catawba County.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Arthur Duckworth; and brothers, Rex Crump, Robert Powell, and Ronald Powell.

The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015 at East Valdese Baptist Church with the Rev. Brett Howell officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until noon prior to the service.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
