Mary “Betty” Childers, 89, of Seymour, TN, earned her crown on Thursday, June 2, 2022. She was at home with her caregivers, Mellonie Simons and Parker Brittain.
Born in Mitchell County, NC on August 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Virgie Jones. Betty was a member of First Apostolic Church in Morganton.
Mrs. Childers is survived by her son, Michael Childers (Joyce); daughters, Gail C. Burnette and Janet C. Campbell (Mark); grandchildren; Mellonie, Mindy, Melissa, Tanya, Amanda, Thomas, and Donald; great-grandchildren, Tara (Kevin), Zachary, Parker, Cassandra, Alexis, R.J., Tommy, Jazmyne, Anastasia, Alyssa, Abby, Alexander, Alexandria, Kai (her little best friend), and Martin; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ted Jones (Shirley); sister, Georgia Yelton; and her canine companion, Samson.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Howard Childers; sister, Helen Yelton; and special aunt, Mary Hughes.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 7 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 8 at First Apostolic Church. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
