Mrs. Martha Azalee Cook Deal, 85, of Valdese, NC went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2016. Born on April 6, 1930 in Burke County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Sam Cook and Mary Ethel Cook. Azalee was a member of High Peak Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday school class. She was a caregiver to many and operated Piney Mountain Grocery Store.
Mrs. Deal is survived by a sister, Annie Mae Whisnant and her husband, Melvin, of Valdese and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Azalee was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph O. Deal; a sister, Mary Louvena Cook; and a nephew, Boyd Whisnant.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at High Peak Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at the church at 2 p.m. with Dr. Kevin Purcell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to High Peak Baptist Church, 3073 High Peak Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
At other times the family will be at the home of Annie Mae Whisnant on Cook Road in Valdese.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
