Marsha D. States

Marsha D. States, 43, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2007 at Grace Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 19, 1963 in Avon Park, FL, and was a daughter of J. Lawrence Huber of Sebring, FL. She was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church and taught English as a second language at Mountain View Elementary School. Marsha was affectionately known as "Mama States" in the community and by her children’s friends.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Jim States of the home; a son, J. T. States of the home; daughters, Kimy and Kristin States, both of the home; a brother, J. Lawrence Huber, Jr. of Omaha, NE; sisters; Anita Jean Huber of Ft. Collins, CO and Allyson O’Dea of Parker, CO; an uncle and aunt, John and Elsa Huber of PA; in-laws, Jim and Dolly States of Hamilton, OH; a brother-in-law, Tim States of Anderson, IN; sisters-in-law, Carla Merrill of Morganton and Cheryl Pickett of Hamilton, OH; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to their friends at Burkemont Baptist Church and Morganton Church of God, Dr. MacDonald and Dr. Reddy and their staffs; the wonderful assistance of Burke County Hospice, especially Carolyn Plemmons, and her extended family in the Burke County Schools where she served.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 13, 2007 at Burkemont Baptist Church with the Reverends David Mills, Eddy Bunton, Donald Smith, and Scott Arnold officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour. At other times, the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home, PO Box 2608, Morganton, NC 28680 to help with the funeral expenses.
