Marilyn Ruth Fleming Harton, 90, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.  Born in Burke County, NC on March 16, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Nantz Fleming and Nola Curtis Fleming.  Marilyn was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  She worked as a nurse for over 10 years and was a founding member of Burke Hospice.  Marilyn enjoyed sewing, reading, working with her flowers, but especially cooking and baking for her family.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who loved her family dearly.

Mrs. Harton is survived by her children, Jean Elizabeth Harton Boyce (Brian) and Patrick Alexander Harton (Kelly); ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Russell Fleming and Betty Whitaker; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Herbert Harton; children, Holly Ann Harton, Lester Herbert Harton, Jr., and Joel Thomas Harton; and a number of brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Paul McClure officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Amorem (formerly Burke Hospice) or Oak Hill United Methodist Church.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
