Margaret “Sue” Stroupe, 88, of Morganton, NC passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. She was born on February 16, 1936, in Lincoln County to the late Woodrow Shull and Irene Anthony Shull. Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She devoted her time loving and spoiling her grandchildren. Sue was a lifelong member of Mt. Home Baptist Church where she married her husband, Ben. They would have been married seventy-two years on Valentine’s Day. She worked alongside her husband in the business he owned, Ben Stroupe and Son Septic Tanks. Sue was well-known as being a hard worker and was often referred to as someone who “worked as hard as a man.” She enjoyed traveling across country with friends, whether it was in a RV, cruising, or flying, especially visiting different casinos.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gary Stroupe; siblings, Helen, Louise, Forest, Margie and Everette.

She is survived by her husband, George “Ben” Stroupe; daughters, Linda Stroupe Fisher and Lisa Stroupe Greene (David); daughter-in-law, Susie Stroupe; grandchildren, Rebecca Garner (Chris), Kevin Stroupe (Michelle), Clayton Greene, and Olivia Greene; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Anabel Garner, and Jackson and Colt Stroupe; siblings, Willie, Joyce and Judy; canine companion, Abie.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00pm Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will begin at 3pm in the church with Dr. Ed Yount, Rev. Rocky Hartman, and Rev. Ethan Cromer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Home Baptist Church.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I am so sorry to hear of Sue's passing. Jack and I enjoyed the visits with Sue and Ben at their home. But, I remember most the times Sue (or mostly Ben) would drop by the store with some tale to share. Sue was a beautiful lady and I am glad to have known her. She was so proud of her family and I know you will all miss her. Love and prayers for all of you in the days ahead. Guinn Huffman "Time Saver Market"

To Uncle Ben and all the family We are so sorry to hear of Aunt Sue’s passing. She was one of the kindest, most helpful people we ever knew. Always such a gracious lady whenever we visited Morganton. Even though it’s been awhile. Making sure we were comfortable and had plenty to eat. And the goodies! And a good sense of humor! That’s how we remember Sue. May God have received her with open arms' in Heaven surely. All our love and sympathy Charlene and Byron McManus and family
